Using Simulation to Evaluate a Continuous Review (r, Q) Two-echelon Inventory Model

چکیده
The effective management of supply chains depends upon the ability of decision makers to control inventory while maintaining customer service at low cost. This paper examines an analytical model for the two-echelon one warehouse and multiple retailers system using (R, Q) inventory policies. A simulation model was developed to analyze the performance of the analytical model under conditions that violate the model’s fundamental modeling assumptions. The behavior of the multi-echelon inventory model under different demand (non-Poisson) and lead-time (non-constant) conditions were observed in an experimental design. The simulation results showed that there was significant error in estimating the total system cost (tends to be underestimated) when the model assumptions are violated. The cost relative error ranged between 34% and – 40% over all the experiments examined. Models of the one warehouse and multiple retailers two-echelon inventory system are significant because they can be embedded within aggregation/disaggregation techniques that allow the general approximation of supply chain networks. Practitioners looking to utilize these models will have a better understanding of when and when not to use these models in practice.

Determination of a Desirable Inventory Policy in a three Echelon Multilayer Supply Chain with Normal Demand
Inventory control is one of the most important issues in supply chain management. In this paper, a three-echelon production, distribution, inventory system composed of one producer, a set of wholesalers and retailers is considered. Costumers' demands can be approximated by a normal distribution and the inventory policy is a kind of continuous review (R, Q). In this paper, a model based on stand...

In this paper, we apply continuous review (S-1, S) policy for inventory control in a three-echelon supply chain (SC) including r identical retailers, a central warehouse with limited storage space, and two independent manufacturing plants which offer two kinds of product to the customer. The warehouse of the model follows (M/M/1) queue model where customer demands follow a Poisson probabilit...
متن کاملDeriving the Exact Cost Function for a Two-Level Inventory System with Information Sharing
In this paper we consider a two-level inventory system with one warehouse and one retailer with information exchange. Transportation times are constant and retailer faces independent Poisson demand. The retailer applies continuous review (R,Q)-policy. The supplier starts with m initial batches (of size Q), and places an order to an outside source immediately after the retailer’s inventory posit...
متن کاملEstimation of the cost function of a two-echelon inventory system with lost sales using regression
Multi-echelon inventory systems are one of the most important and attractive areas in modelling supply chain management so that several researches and studies have been done about. In this paper, the total cost function of a two-echelon inventory system with central warehouse and many identical retailers controlled by continuous review inventory policy is estimated. We have assumed the demand i...
متن کامل(Q,r) Stochastic Demand Inventory Model With Exact Number of Cycles
In most stochastic inventory models, such as continuous review models and periodic review models, it has been assumed that the stockout period during a cycle is small enough to be neglected so that the average number of cycles per year can be approximated as D/Q, where D is the average annual demand and Q is the order quantity. This assumption makes the problem more tactable, but it should not ...
